Why Chinese phones face death

About 250 lakh handsets are expected to be out of service from April 15, as GSM service providers, including Airtel and Vodafone pull the plug on them. These are unbranded Chinese mobiles that do not have IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) numbers and pose a serious security risk.

All mobile phone service users have been directed by the Department of Telecom (DoT) to disconnect these phones. In fact, two deadlines - January 6 and March 31 - have already been missed by the companies. Now they have undertaken to acquire the necessary equipment to track these phones by April 15 and discontinue their services thereafter - a process that is expected to take another 15 days, that is, by April 30.

The Economics of Hurling a Shoe

What would you do when you are frustrated or angered by a leader’s action (or the lack of it)? You can spit, call names, shout, burn effigies, bite your lip and remain silent, or keep listening to your MP3 and pretend you never thought or heard about it. And, you can also throw a shoe. At least that’s how people seem to express their anguish in recent times. Throwing a shoe at leaders is globally becoming a synonym for expressing displeasure, a method for venting rage, a sign of extreme disrespect, and an act of ultimate insult.

Jarnail Singh, a journalist with the Hindi news daily, Dainik Jagran, who flung a shoe at the Indian Home Minister, P. Chidambaram today, is not first of his kinds. He has several Indian and foreign predecessors. In December last year, Muntadhar al-Zaidi, an Iraqi Journalist, called the then American President, George Bush, a ‘dog’ and threw a pair of size 10 footwear. Though Bush carefully dodged it, the assailant became an overnight celebrity and a hero among the Iraqi general public. The act also inspired several tech-savvy Internet game designers. Result: tossing shoe at George Bush became the favorite pass time of several Internet users. Muntadhar is currently languishing in an Iraqi prison serving a three-year sentence.

In February 2009, the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabo, met with almost similar insult while he was giving a speech on Global Economy at the University of Cambridge, London. A young member of the hand-picked audience blew a whistle, screamed ‘how can you listen to these lies’, and hurled his shoe, which missed Mr. Wen by a few feet. A message in a board that was discussing this incident said, ‘He got lucky. He didn’t do it in China’. The current state of assailant is not known.

If throwing shoe is ‘The’ way expressing anger at Leaders, shoe manufacturers will never be susceptible to recession, one of my colleagues quipped. I beg to differ. It’s a simple case of supply and demand. You will soon find several retail shoe chains all over India. And they may give you ‘throw one, get two free’ offers. You may also soon find ‘used shoes’ market, selling a pair with a tag ‘Rs. 99 - Thrown at the Prime Minister’. Politicians may conduct ‘Shoe throwing’ rallies or processions. The famous New York based Christie’s may try to auction ‘Only shoe thrown at Michael Jackson’.

Keeping the banter aside, next time, Journalists in India and elsewhere may be asked to take their shoes off before attending a press conference. But I bet no one can stop a journalist from spitting at the leader or worse, writing a stinker in their column the next day. To sum it up, I would like to quote Al Pacino’s words to Russell Crowe in the 1999 movie ‘Insider’. ‘Ordinary people under extraordinary pressure, Mike. What the hell do you expect? Grace and consistency?’

SAD announces cash award for shoe-throwing journo

Praising Delhi journalist Jarnail Singh for his "courage and bravery" in hurling a shoe at home minister P Chidambaram during a press
conference, Sikh political party Shiromani Akali Dal on Tuesday announced a cash reward of Rs 200,000 for him.

"Decisions are not taken by throwing shoes but this incident has showed our pain and suffering. Bhagat Singh had also thrown a bomb in the assembly. We have thus announced a reward of Rs 200,000 for his courage and bravery," Avtar Singh Hit, national general secretary of Shiromani Akali Dal, said.

Jarnail Singh hurled a shoe at Chidambaram, at a press conference here, over his response to the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) clean chit to Congress leader Jagdish Tytler on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

The president of the Delhi unit of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Manjit Singh also supported Jarnail Singh's act.

"I fully support the journalist. What he has done represents the feelings of all the Sikhs of the country, and not only Sikhs it represents the feelings of all the law abiding citizens of the country," Manjit Singh said.

"Three months ago in Punjab, Rahul Gandhi had promised to not give tickets to Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler but they were given tickets, and CBI also gave a clean chit to them. We are waiting for the court's judgement and our struggle will continue," he said.

Meanwhile, leaders of various Sikh organisation Tuesday held a sit-in at Jantar Mantar here to protest the CBI's clean chit to Tytler in a case relating to the 1984 massacre of Sikhs.

Around 4,000-5,000 people participated in the dharna. The protesters first offered 'ardas' or prayer at the Gurdwara Bangla Sahib at noon after which they proceeded towards Congress president Sonia Gandhi's house. They were, however, stopped near Jantar Mantar.

India stands 115th in internet speed

India's poor internet connectivity makes the country stand at 115th position in terms of speed, among 223 nations. As per a report, India's average internet connection speed stands low at 772 Kbps compared to the global average of 1.5 Mbps.

The country ranks 93rd in terms of broadband adoption globally with 3.74 percent connections at speed over 2 Mbps and 55th for the adoption of narrowband adoption at speeds below 256 Kbps. In terms of broadband penetration, India had 0.0001 broadband IPs per capita. Meanwhile, on another parameter called attack traffic - a measure of rogue activity on the Internet, such as DNS attacks, bots, spam activity and hackers, India ranked 17th globally.

The findings are based on the 'State of the Internet' report released by Akamai, which also pinpoints that approximately 19 percent internet connections around the world were at high broadband with speeds greater than 5 Mbps. The report features South Africa on the top with the country witnessing the highest percentage of connections on high broadband. Even in the in the prior quarter South Korea, Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark and Norway stood with high broadband IPs per capita though comparatively less than the present.

I was walking around in a Big Bazar store making shopping, when I saw a Cashier talking to a boy couldn't have been more than 5 or 6 years old.
The Cashier said, 'I'm sorry, but you don't have enough money to buy this doll. Then the little boy turned to me and asked: ''Uncle, are you sure I don't have enough money?''
I counted his cash and replied: ''You know that you don't have enough money to buy the doll , my dear.'' The little boy was still holding the doll in his hand.
Finally, I walked toward him and I asked him who he wished to give this doll to. 'It's the doll that my sister loved most and wanted so much. I wanted to Gift her for her BIRTHDAY.
I have to give the doll to my mummy so that she can give it to my sister when she goes there.' His eyes were so sad while saying this. 'My Sister has gone to be with God . Daddy says that Mummy is going to see God very soon too, so I thought that she could take the doll with her to give it to my sister.''
My heart nearly stopped. The little boy looked up at me and said: 'I told daddy to tell mummy not to go yet. I need her to wait until I come back from the mall.' Then he showed me a very nice photo of him where he was laughing. He then told me 'I want mummy to take my picture with her so my sister won't forget me.' 'I love my mummy and I wish she doesn't have to leave me, but daddy says that she has to go to be with my little sister.' Then he looked again at the doll with sad eyes, very quietly.
I quickly reached for my wallet and said to the boy. 'Suppose we check again, just in case you do have enough money for the doll?'' 'OK' he said, 'I hope I do have enough.' I added some of my money to his without him seeing and we started to count it. There was enough for the doll and even some spare money.
The little boy said: 'Thank you God for giving me enough money!' Then he looked at me and added, 'I asked last night before I went to sleep for God to make sure I had enough money to buy this doll, so that mummy could give It to my sister. He heard me!'' 'I also wanted to have enough money to buy a white rose for my mummy, but I didn't dare to ask God for too much. But He gave me enough to buy the doll and a white rose. My mommy loves white roses.'
I finished my shopping in a totally different state from when I started. I couldn't get the little boy out of my mind. Then I remembered a local news paper article two days ago, which mentioned a drunk man in a truck, who hit a car occupied by a young woman and a little girl. The little girl died right away, and the mother was left in a critical state.
The family had to decide whether to pull the plug on the life-sustaining machine, because the young woman would not be able to recover from the coma.. Was this the family of the little boy?
Two days after this encounter with the little boy, I read in the newspaper that the young woman had passed away. I couldn't stop myself as I bought a bunch of white roses and I went to the funeral home where the body of the young woman was exposed for people to see and make last wishes before her burial. She was there, in her coffin, holding a beautiful white rose in her hand with the photo of the little boy and the doll placed over her chest. I left the place, teary-eyed, feeling that my life had been changed forever..
The love that the little boy had for his mother and his sister is still, to this day, hard to imagine. And in a fraction of a second, a drunk driver had taken all this away from him.

It doesn’t take lots of guts to say negative things about others, someone said “Abhinaba has guts, he speaks whatever he wants, doesn’t bother about any one”, someone said “how can I be as much forward as you?” I say silently, it doesn’t require guts, it is a show off and it also shows how arrogant you are.
I would say those have guts who can do self-review and able to tell others. But if review contains all negative things then I say that guy does not have any self believe. I was thinking about it today morning and came to a conclusion that I should start self-review first, then only I can say that I have guts.
Abhinaba Basu, simple, friendly and cool, these are what others say about me, If I start looking into my testimonials in orkut or in linked-in, I see only good songs, those are not reviews, those are written by friends, friends can’t do good review because they like you and they are like you, that’s why they are your friends. So coming to me, what others say, I am simple, I say I am not, I am so much complex, sometimes I also not able to recognize myself. They say I am simple because I am an open book, I don’t hide anything about me from anyone, even it is negative (depends on the situation), I say. Ego, the big part of my life, I really don’t know how to overcome it and I feel bad many times because of my ego.
I am friendly, yes I am but always I have given time to some special friends of mine. If I spend 100 minutes for all the friends I spend 75 minutes for that special friend. I am helpful, yes I am but I help only some friends of mine, not all, and if she/ he is my very special friend, I never say no. Actually I have very less friends, maximum ten or fifteen.
Some say I am talented, I say I am not talented enough; I just have quick problem solving and quick learning capability. Asha, one friend of mine compared me with Einstein, which is too much.
Girl friends, others usually call me a Casanova, but that is also not true, I have lots of friends who are girls. Remember I told you about my special friends, they all are girls, but I don’t know why it happens I always get only one special friend at a time. So others think that, the girl with whom I roaming around, having part, dinner etc is my girlfriend, but that is not true always.
Arrogant, if you need an example of arrogant, that’s me. I don’t know what to talk, where and with whom, and most of the girls either think me an arrogant or a monkey.
The worst thing of my life is, my writing, whatever I see, I write, I get inspired by some friends some times, most of the time special friends and write about them, but I never ever able to tell my friend that this is on her, this is about her.

সব ছেলেরাই hypocrite

এটা লিখছি আমার চিন্তা ভাবনা থেকে, আমার বন্ধুদের দেখে (হা, আমার কিছু ছেলে বন্ধুও আছে), তাদের মনভাব বুঝে। আরো একবার এটা লেখার কারন বলে দিই, আনেক মেয়েই আমায় বলে আমি নাকি male chauvinist, তো সেটাকেও মিথ্যা প্রমান করার দরকার আছে।

ছেলেরা কিছুটা পাল্টেছে আগের থেকে? মানে দশ বছর আগের থেকে, উত্তর হল হা, তারা নিজেদের বউ কে অন্যদের সামনে কিছুটা খোলামেলা দেখতে আপত্তি করেনা, কিন্তু ব্যাস ওই টুকুই। ছেলেরা, তাদের বউ, বান্ধবী এবং প্রেমিকার কে বিভিন্ন রকম ভাবে দেখাতে চায় অন্যদের কাছে, যদি ও নিজে একি ভাবে দেখে। একটা উদাহরণ দিচ্ছি, অফিসে TT খেলা চলছে, না কোন match নয়, একটি ছেলে ও একটি মেয়ে খেলছ, দুজনেই আমার বন্ধু, TT বল নিচে পড়েছে, তো মেয়েটি ঝুকে বল তুলতে গেল, ঝোকার জন্য তার বুকের কিছুটা অংশ বেরিয়ে এসছিল এবং ছেলেটি, সেই দিকেই তাকিয়ে ছিল। কোন মেয়ে একটু খোলামেলা কোন কাপড় পরে এলে ওই ছেলেটিই সবার আগে প্রশংসায় ভরিয়ে দেয়, কিন্তু তার সঙ্গে আলোচনা করে জানলাম, তার বউ কে চুরিদার ছাড়া কিছু পরতে দেবে না।

গল্প করতে করতে মেয়েদের পিঠে হাত দেওয়া টা নতুন ব্যাপার নয়, মেয়েরাও সেটাতে কিছু মনে করে না। কিন্তু আসলে ছেলেরা পিঠে হাত দেয় বন্ধুতের জন্য নয়, আমি দেখেছি, ছেলেরা ঠিক সেখানেই হাত দেয় যেখানে bra strap থাকে, আর কেউ যদি বলে আমার মনেই পাপ এরকম কিছুই নয়, ও আমার খুব ভালো বন্ধু, তাহলে আমি বলি মশাই, যখন, আপনার বউ বা প্রেমিকার পিঠে কেউ হাত দেয় তখন ওইরকম ট্যারা চোখে কেন তাকিয়ে থাকেন?

এখন কথা হচ্ছে যে কাউকে তুমি কিছু করতে জোর করতে পারনা। কিন্তু যদি জোর করানর ক্ষেত্রে মেয়েদের জুড়ি মেলা ভার। আমি বহুদিন আগে একটা পোস্ট করেছিলাম এখানে "একটা জটিল চরিত্র" বলে, সেখানে আমি নারী দের সম্বন্ধে কিছু কথা বলেছি, কিন্তু অনেক বাকী থেকে গেছে। আর সেখানে জা কমেন্ট পেয়েছি বিশেষ করে মহিলা মহল থেকে তাতে একটি ব্যাপার এ আমি নিশ্চিত যে কথা গুলো কিছু মাত্র ভুল নয়। তবে আমি কিন্তু একদম ই পুরুষ বাদী নই, আসলে পুরুষবাদী বলে কিছু হয় না, নারীবাদী হয়। সব মেয়েরাই নারীবাদী আর কিছু ছেলে নারীবাদী নয়, আর বিবাহিত পুরুষ হলে তো কথাই নেই, বৌ, শালী দের পাল্লায় পড়ে তারাও নারী বাদী থেকে নারী পুজারী হয়ে জায়, আমার কাছে উদাহরণ আছে কিন্তু এখানে লিখলাম না।
একজন জিগ্যাসা করল তুমি এত নারী বিদবেষী কেন? আমি আসলে নারী বিদবেষী নই, আমি নারী দের ভয় পাই। আমি নারী দের নিয়ে কবিতা, গল্প, রম্যরচনা লিখতে ভালবাসি কিন্তু ভয় পাই যে ওরা বুঝে গেলেই তো কেল্লা ফতে, আজ আমি শ্রাবণী কে নিয়ে লিখছি, অনেক কিছু লুকিয়ে, ও যদি জানতে পারে তাহলে, ওকি কখন আমার সাথে সেভাবে মিশতে পারবে, এখন যে ভাবে মেশে? আমি জানি পারবে না, সব মেয়েই একটা গোপণীয়তা বজায় রাখতে চায়, হতে চায় রহস্য, সে যদি জেনে জায় আমি এত কিছু ওর সম্বন্ধে জানি তাহলে আমার খেল খতম, আমার যে আরো অনেক কিছু জানার বাকী আছে, বিশেষ করে গল্পের শেষ টা, আস্ল জীবনে তো গল্প শেষ হয়েই গেছে, কিন্তু কেন ও কিভাবে সেটা এখনও আমার জানা বাকী আছে।

- তুমি কোনদিন কাউকে ভালবাস নি?
- হা বেসেছি আর ঠকেছি, আর চাইনা আমার জীবনে ভালবাসা আসুক, আমি আগে অনেক নরম ছিলাম, এখন একটু বেশিই কঠিন।

How Much Does a Girl Love!!!

There was once this guy who was very much in love with his girl.
This romantic guy folded 1,000 pieces of paper cranes as a
gift to his girl.

Although, at that time he was just a small fry in his company, his
future doesn't seem too bright, they were very happy together. Until one day,
his girl told him she was going to Paris and will never come back. She also told
him that she cannot visualize any future for the both of them, so they went their own ways
there and then...
Heartbroken, the guy agreed. But when he regained his confidence, he
worked hard day and night, slogging his body and mind just to make something out of
himself.

Finally with all the hard work and the help of friends, this guy had
set up his own company ..
You never fail until you stop trying. One rainy day, while this guy was
driving, he saw an elderly
couple sharing an umbrella in the rain walking to some destination. Even
with the umbrella, they
were still drenched. It didn't take him long to realize they were his
girl's parents. With a heart
in getting back at them, he drove slowly beside the couple, wanting them
to spot him in his luxury
sedan. He wanted them to know that he wasn't the same any more; he had
his own company, car, condo, etc.
He made it! What he saw next confused him, the couple was walking
towards a cemetery, and so he got out
of his car and followed...and he saw his girl, a photograph of her
smiling sweetly as ever at him from
her tombstone and he saw his paper cranes right beside her...

Her parents saw him. He asked them why this had happened. They
explained, she did not leave for France at all.
She was ill with cancer. She had believed that he will make it someday,
but she did not want to be
his obstacle... therefore she had chosen to leave him. Just because
someone doesn't love you the way you
want them to, doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have. She
had wanted her parents to put
his paper cranes beside her, because, if the day comes when fate brings
him to her again...he can take some
of those back with him... Once you have loved, you will always love. For
what's in your mind may escape but what's in your heart will remain forever.

The guy just wept.....The worst way to miss someone is to be sitting
right beside her knowing you can't have her,
see her or be with her ever again.........hope you understand. Find
time to realise that there is one person
who means so much to you, for you might wake up one morning losing that
person who you thought meant nothing to you.

জানিনা কেন করছি, জানিনা কি করছি তবে কিছু করতে হবে ভেবেই যে করছি তা কিন্তু নয়। আমাকে আমার এক বান্ধু বলেছিল কদিন আগে যে আমি নাকি খুব ভালো মানুশ চিন্তে পারি। আমি জানিনা সেটা কততা সত্য কিন্তু এটা ঠিক যে আমি অনেক দিন ধরেই ভেবেছি যে জাদের আমি চিনি তাদের জীবন কে জদি সবার সামনে তুলে ধরা জায় তাহলে প্রত্যেক টা জীবনি একটা কাহিনী হয়ে উঠবে। তবে এটা ঠিক যে সে কাহিনী হয়তো একদিনে শেষ হবেনা আর কাহিনী আগে নিয়ে জাওয়ার জন্য ধীরতা দরকার, আর দরকার কিছুটা কল্পনা।

এখানে একটা কথা চলে আসে মামলার বিষয়ে। কারোর জীবন নিয়ে লিখলেই ত হলনা বাবু অনেক কিছু জটিলতা থাকে। জ়াকে নিয়ে লিখলাম তার পছন্দ না হলে কি হবে, সে তো আমায় পেটাতে ও পারে, আবার খুব খারাপ হলে মামলাও করতে পারে।

Plot

Actually I can't describe how great comedian he is, but I can portray his personality by telling some incidents happened in our college with me, us and all. What 'Pujo' means to a Bengali by Vir Sanghvi

Most modern Indian cities strive to rise above ethnicity.

Tell anybody who lives in Bombay that he lives in a Maharashtrian city and (unless of course, you are speaking to Bal Thackeray) he will take immediate offence. We are cosmopolitan, he will say indigenously. Tell a Delhiwalla that his is a Punjabi city (which, in many ways, it is) and he will respond with much self-righteous nonsense about being the nation's capital, about the international composition of the city's elite etc. And tell a Bangalorean that he lives in a Kannadiga city and you'll get lots of techno-gaff about the internet revolution and about how Bangalore is even more cosmopolitan than Bombay.

But, the only way to understand what Calcutta is about is recognize that the city is essentially Bengali. What's more, no Bengali minds you saying that. Rather, he is proud of the fact. Calcutta's strengths and weaknesses mirror those of the Bengali character. It has the drawbacks: the sudden passions, the cheerful chaos, the utter contempt for mere commerce, the fiery response to the smallest provocation.

And it has the strengths (actually, I think of the drawbacks as strengths in their own way). Calcutta embodies the Bengali love of culture; the triumph of intellectualism over greed; the complete transparency of all emotions, the disdain with which hypocrisy and insincerity are treated; the warmth of genuine humanity; and the supremacy of emotion over all other aspects of human existence.

That's why Calcutta is not for everyone. You want your cities clean and green; stick to Delhi. You want your cities, rich and impersonal; go to Bombay. You want them high-tech and full of draught beer; Bangalore's your place. But if you want a city with a soul: come to Calcutta.

When I look back on the years I've spent in Calcutta - and I come back so many times each year that I often feel I've never been away - I don't remember the things that people remember about cities. When I think of London, I think of the vast open spaces of Hyde Park. When I think of New York, I think of the frenzy of Times Square. When I think of Tokyo, I think of the bright lights of Shinjiku. And when I think of Paris, I think of the Champs Elysee. But when I think of Calcutta, I never think of any one place. I don't focus on the greenery of the maidan, the beauty of the Victoria Memorial, the bustle of Burra Bazar or the splendour of the new Howrah 'Bridge'. I think of people.

Because, finally, a city is more than bricks and mortars, street lights and tarred roads. A city is the sum of its people. And who can ever forget - or replicate - the people of Calcutta?

When I first came to live here, I was told that the city would grow on me. What nobody told me was that the city would change my life. It was in Calcutta that I learnt about true warmth; about simple human decency; about love and friendship; about emotions and caring; about truth and honesty. I learnt other things too. Coming from Bombay as I did, it was a revelation to live in a city where people judged each other on the things that really mattered; where they recognized that being rich did not make you a better person - in fact, it might have the opposite effect. I learnt also that if life is about more than just money, it is about the things that other cities ignore; about culture, about ideas, about art, and about passion. In Bombay, a man with a relatively low income will salt some of it away for the day when he gets a stock market tip. In Calcutta, a man with exactly the same income will not know the difference between a debenture and a dividend. But he will spend his money on the things that matter. Each morning, he will read at least two newspapers and develop sharply etched views on the state of the world.

Each evening, there will be fresh (ideally, fresh-water or river) fish on his table. His children will be encouraged to learn to dance or sing. His family will appreciate the power of poetry. And for him, religion and culture will be in inextricably bound together.

Ah religion! Tell outsiders about the importance of Puja in Calcutta and they'll scoff. Don't be silly, they'll say. Puja is a religious festival. And Bengal has voted for the CPM since 1977. How can godless Bengal be so hung up on a religions festival? I never know how to explain them that to a Bengali, religion consists of much more than shouting Jai Shri Ram or pulling down somebody's mosque. It has little to do with meaningless ritual or sinister political activity.

The essence of Puja is that all the passions of Bengal converge: emotion, culture, the love of life, the warmth of being together, the joy of celebration, the pride in artistic expression and yes, the cult of the goddess.

It may be about religion. But is about much more than just worship. In which other part of India would small, not particularly well-off localities, vie with each other to produce the best pandals? Where else could puja pandals go beyond religion to draw inspiration from everything else? In the years I lived in Calcutta, the pandals featured Amitabh Bachchan, Princes Diana and even Saddam Hussain! Where else would children cry with the sheer emotional power of Dashami, upset that the Goddess had left their homes? Where else would the whole city gooseflesh when the dhakis first begin to beat their drums? Which other Indian festival - in any part of the country - is so much about food, about going from one roadside stall to another, following your nose as it trails the smells of cooking?

To understand Puja, you must understand Calcutta. And to understand Calcutta, you must understand the Bengali. It's not easy.

Certainly, you can't do it till you come and live here, till you let Calcutta suffuse your being, invade your bloodstream and steal your soul. But once you have, you'll love Calcutta forever. Wherever you go, a bit of Calcutta will go with you. I know, because it's happened to me. And every Puja, I am overcome by the magic of Bengal. It's a feeling that'll never go away.

A is for Awpheesh (as in Office). This is where the average Kolkakatan goes and spends a day hard at work. And if he works for the 'Vest Bengal Gawrment' he will arrive at 10, wipe his forehead till 11, have a tea break at 12, throw around a few files at 12.30, break for lunch at 1, smoke an unfiltered cigarette at 2, break for tea at 3, sleep sitting down at 4 and go home at 4:30. It's a hard life!

B is for Bhision. For some reason many Bengalis don't have good bhision. In fact in Kolkata most people are wearing spectacles all the time.

C is for Chappell. Currently, this is the Bengali word for the Devil, for the worst form of evil. In the night mothers put their kids to sleep saying, 'Na ghumaley Chappell eshey dhorey niye jabe.'

D is for Debashish or any other name starting with Deb. By an ancient law every fourth Bengali Child has to be named Debashish. So you have a Debashish everywhere and trying to get creative they are also called Deb, Debu, Deba with variations like Debopriyo, Deboprotim, Debojyoti, etc. thrown in at times.

E is for Eeesh. This is a very common Bengali exclamation made famous by Aishwarya Rai in the movie Devdas. It is estimated that on an average a Bengali, especially Bengali women, use eeesh 10,089 times every year. 'Ei Morechhey' is a close second to Eeesh.

F is for Feeesh. These are creatures that swim in rivers and seas and are a favourite food of the Bengalis. Despite the fact that a fish market has such strong smells, with one sniff a Bengali knows if a fish is all right. If not, he will say 'eeesh what feeesh is theesh!'

G is for Good name. Every Bengali boy will have a good name like Debashish or Deboprotim and a pet name like Motka, Bhombol, Thobla, etc. While every Bengali girls will have pet names like Tia, Tuktuki, Mishti, Khuku, et cetera.

H is for Harmonium. This the Bengali equivalent of a rock guitar. Take four Bengalis and a Harmonium and you have the successors to The Bheatles!

I is for lleesh. This is a feeesh with 10,000 bones which would kill any ordinary person, but which the Bengalis eat with releeesh!

J is for Jhola. No selfrespecting Bengali is complete without his Jhola. It is a shapeless cloth bag where he keeps all his belongings and he fits an amazing number of things in. Even as you read this there are two million jholas bobbling around Kolkata, and they all look exactly the same! Note that 'Jhol' as in Maachher Jhol is a close second.

K is for Kee Kaando !. It used to be the favourite Bengali exclamation till eeesh took over because of Aishwarya Rai (now Kee Kando's agent is trying to hire Bipasha Basu).

L is for Lungi, the dress for all occasions. People in Kolkata manage to play football and cricket wearing it not to mention the daily trip in the morning to the local bajaar. Now there is talk of a lungi expedition to Mt Everest.

M is for Minibus. These are dangerous half buses whose antics would effortlessly frighten the living daylights out of all James Bond stuntmen as well as Formula 1 race car drivers.

N is for Nangto. This is the Bengali word for Naked. It is the most interesting naked word in any language!

O is for Oil. The Bengalis believe that a touch of mustard oil will cure anything from cold (oil in the nose), to earache (oil in the ear), to cough (oil on the throat) to piles (oil you know where!).

P is for Phootball. This is always a phavourite phassion of the Kolkattan. Every Bengali is born an expert in this game. The two biggest clubs there are Mohunbagan and East Bengal and when they play the city comes to a stop.

Q is for Queen. This really has nothing to do with the Bengalis or Kolkata, but it's the only Q word I could think of at this moment. There's also Quilt but they never use them in Kolkata.

R is for Robi Thakur. Many many years ago Rabindranath got the Nobel Prize. This has given the right to all Bengalis no matter where they are to frame their acceptance speeches as if they were directly related to the great poet and walk with their head held high. This also gives Bengalis the birthright to look down at Delhi and Mumbai and of course 'all non-Bengawlees' ! Note that 'Rawshogolla' comes a close second !

S is for Shourav. Now that they finally produced a genuine cricketer and a captain, Bengalis think that he should be allowed to play until he is 70 years old. Of course they will see to it that he stays in good form by doing a little bit of 'jawggo' and 'maanot'.

T is for Trams. Hundred years later there are still trams in Kolkata. Of course if you are in a hurry it's faster to walk.

U is for Aambrela. When a Bengali baby is born he is handed one.

V is for Bhaayolence. Bengalis are the most non-violent violent people around. When an accident happens they will fold up their sleeves, shout and scream and curse and abuse, "Chherey De Bolchhi" but the last time someone actually hit someone was in 1979.

W is for Water. For three months of the year the city is underwater and every year for the last 200 years the authorities are taken by surprise by this!

X is for X'mas. It's very big in Kolkata, with Park Street fully lit up and all Bengalis agreeing that they must eat cake that day.

Y is for Yesshtaarday. Which is always better than today for a Bengali (see R for Robi Thakur).

Z is for Jebra, Joo, Jipper and Jylophone.

Do u have more than 1 gmail id and want to login to google chat engine at a time with all ur Gmail id's.

Install Google talk, right click the Google talk desktop icon->Properties->Short Cut tab->Target->Append at the end with the following string with out any quotation.
" /startmenu /nomutex"

Note: there is a space before first forward slash as well as second forward slash.

Click Ok button

Now double click on the google Talk icon as many times as u want and login with your different Google id's.

[G Mail] Stop sending mail you later regret

Sometimes I send messages I shouldn't send. Like the time I told that girl I had a crush on her over text message. Or the time I sent that late night email to my ex-girlfriend that we should get back together. Gmail can't always prevent you from sending messages you might later regret, but today we're launching a new Labs feature I wrote called Mail Goggles which may help.

When you enable Mail Goggles, it will check that you're really sure you want to send that late night Friday email. And what better way to check than by making you solve a few simple math problems after you click send to verify you're in the right state of mind?

By default, Mail Goggles is only active late night on the weekend as that is the time you're most likely to need it. Once enabled, you can adjust when it's active in the General settings.

Hopefully Mail Goggles will prevent many of you out there from sending messages you wish you hadn't. Like that late night memo -- I mean mission statement -- to the entire firm.

This gadget allows you to add your location under the signature. To do so go to settings -> Labs and enable Location in Signature. Next go to signature option and select Append my Location check box.

Now check this screenshot to view how it looks.

Ok its true that I am sending from Bangalore and getting Delhi location, but atleast India u can see. And it is very useful for frequent travelers.

Steps to create CMD shortcut on right click of folder

Steps:
1. Go to Tools-> Folder option

2. Go to File Types tab, select Folder and click on advance button.

3. On Edit file Types pop up click new.

4. Browse the CMD to get the CMD.exe path and give a name for the entry.

5. Click Ok to all the pop ups to save the settings.

Now right click on any folder and click CMD there to open command window in the folder.

No matter how organized the parent, there will always come a time when your child will rely on you for distraction, just you and you alone. What do you do when you're stuck without props? Here are 101 informal activities that use nothing more than your clothing, your accessories, and whatever wits you have about you. If your child has a particularly short attention span or low tolerance for boredom, you may have to run through a whole string of these -- but finally, the time will pass.

1. Play "Rock, Paper, Scissors"
2. Arm wrestle
3. Thumb wrestle
4. Push palms together to see who can push the hardest

Yep I am thanking Mr. Pramod Muthali for his shame less behavior. This issue again shows we people are together. Already you people know about the pink chaddi campaign, but what you don't know that I want to discuss on. Bangalore unites, a social organization organized a protest march across the city. From different place the peace march held, w/o disturbing traffic, not on the busy road but on the footpath. That is called a cultured educated peace protest. I don't know beating other people is what kind of Indian culture!!!

This Story is about a man who once upon a time was selling Hotdogs by the roadside.
He was illiterate, so he never read newspapers.
He was hard of hearing, so he never listened to the radio.
His eyes were weak, so he never watched television.
But enthusiastically, he sold lots of hotdogs.
He was smart enough to offer some attractive schemes to increase his sales.
His sales and profit went up.
He ordered more a more raw material and buns and use to sale more.
He recruited few more supporting staff to serve more customers.
He started offering home deliveries. Eventually he got himself a bigger and better stove.
As his business was growing, the son, who had recently graduated from College, joined his father.

Then something strange happened.
The son asked, "Dad, aren't you aware of the great recession that is coming our way?"
The father replied, "No, but tell me about it." The son said, "The international situation is terrible.
The domestic situation is even worse. We should be prepared for the coming bad times."
The man thought that since his son had been to college, read the papers, listened to the radio and watched TV.
He ought to know and his advice should not be taken lightly.
So the next day onwards, the father cut down the his raw material order and buns, took down the colourful signboard,
removed all the special schemes he was offering to the customers and was no longer as enthusiastic.
He reduced his staff strength by giving layoffs.
Very soon, fewer and fewer people bothered to stop at his hotdog stand.
And his sales started coming down rapidly, same is the profit.
The father said to his son, "Son, you were right".
"We are in the middle of a recession and crisis. I am glad you warned me ahead of time."

Moral of The Story: It's all in your MIND! And we actually FUEL this recession much more than we think.

How spammer gets your mail id?

Every day we get spam mails from unknown persons. Sometimes we delete them without reading, and at best we report these messages as spam to the respective email providers. Have you ever wondered from where these people get your mail ids? How do they manage to harvest our email ids?

Well, there are innumerable ways to get the addresses. I will try to outline a few of them below.

1. Mailing Lists

There are a lot of websites that sell email ids that are harvested using many of the methods detailed below. There are companies who get the email addresses legitimately and sells the list for some extra income. An example would be a magazine that asks subscribers for their email in order to keep in touch and send updates. These email addresses may include the ones that a company receives through other means as well. For example, people who just emailed the company with any inquiries or complaints.

Spammers regularly try to get the lists of subscribers to mailing lists, knowing that the email addresses will be live and that only a few of the addresses are likely to be invalid. Some mail servers will even provide these ids upon request. When mail servers refuse such requests, spammers use another trick to get the lists. They will send an email to the mailing list with the headers Return-Receipt-To: or X-Confirm-Reading-To: Those headers would cause some mail transfer agents and programs to send back emails saying that it was delivered or read at a given email address, disclosing it to spammers. Another technique used by spammers is to request mailing list servers to send back a list of all mailing lists they carry. This is an option implemented by some mailing list servers for the convenience of legitimate users. They then send the spam to the mailing list's address, leaving the server to do the hard work of forwarding a copy to each subscribed email address.

Some sites request various details for their guest books and registration forms. Spammers can get email addresses from those either because the forms are available on the net, or because the site sells or gives the email list to others. Some companies would sell or give email lists on paper forms. For instance, event organizers make lists of participants' email addresses then sell the lists once the event is over. Some spammers actually type email addresses from professional directories and other printed materials available. Domain name registration forms are another favorite source of the spamers. Addresses are most usually correct and updated, and people actually open the emails sent to them expecting important messages.

2. Web Pages

Spammers use software programs that spider through web pages, looking for email addresses, for example, email addresses contained in mailto: HTML tags that you can click on and get a mail window opened.

3. Previous Owner Of The Email Address

People sometimes dispose their email address after using it for some time for a variety of reasons. This might happen with dialup usernames at an Internet Service Provider. Someone signs up for an ISP, has his or her email address harvested by spammers, then cancels their account. When someone else signs up with the same ISP with the same username, spammers already know of it. Similar things can happen with AOL screen names - somebody uses a screen name, gets tired of it and cancels it. Later on someone else might take the same screen name. Sometimes email accounts are created for some specific purpose and later discarded.

4. Yahoo People Search

Yahoo people search will show results with email addresses which can later be extracted using email extractor softwares easily.

5. Hacking

Sites that supply free email addresses are sometimes hacked in order to get the list of email addresses, similar to e-commerce sites being hacked to get a list of credit cards.

6. Accessing Same Computer

If a spammer access a computer, they can get a list of valid usernames and email addresses from that computer.

7. Address Book And Emails On Computers

Some viruses and worms spread by emailing themselves to all the email addresses they can find in the address book present in the computer they infect. Some people forward jokes or anything that they find interesting by email to their friends, putting their friends' email addresses on either the To: or CC: fields, rather than the BCC: field. These worms and viruses scan the mail folders too for email addresses that are not in the address book. Such viruses, malwares and spywares will not only spam copies of itself, but also send the extracted list of email addresses to it's creator.

8. Guessing

Spammers sometimes guess email addresses and send a test message to those ids. Then they wait for either a confirmation or an error message to return by email, indicating the status of the ids. A confirmation could be obtained by inserting mail headers requesting the delivery system or mail client to send a confirmation of delivery or reading. Another method of confirming valid email addresses is sending HTML in the email's body, and embedding an image. Mail clients like Outlook and Eudora decode the HTML by trying to fetch the image. Some spammers put the recipient's email address in the image's URL, and check the web server's log for the email addresses of recipients who viewed the spam. So it's good advice to set the mail client to *not* preview rich media emails, which would protect the recipient from both accidentally confirming their email addresses to spammers and viruses. Guessing could be done based on the fact that email addresses are based on people's names.

9. Web Browsers

Some sites use various tricks to extract a surfer's email address from the web browser, sometimes without the surfer noticing it. Those techniques include :

(a) Making the browser fetch one of the page's images through an anonymous FTP connection to the site. Some browsers would give the email address the user has configured into the browser as the password for the anonymous FTP account. A surfer not aware of this technique will not notice that the email address has leaked.

(b) Using JavaScript to make the browser send an email to a chosen email address with the email address configured into the browser. Some browsers would allow email to be sent when the mouse passes over some part of a page. Unless the browser is properly configured, no warning will be issued.

(c) Using the HTTP_FROM header that browsers send to the server. Some browsers pass a header with your email address to every web server you visit. When somebody reads email in a browser they should be aware of active contents like Java applets, Javascript, VB, etc and web bugs. An email containing HTML may include a script that when opened automatically sends email to any email address. Melissa virus is a good example of this. Scripts like this could send the spammer all the addresses on the reader's address book.

10. AOL Profiles

AOL being the choice service provider of new users, who might not know how to recognize scams or know how to handle spam. Spammers use these profiles to harvest email addresses.

11. Internet Relay Chat and Other Chat Rooms

Some IRC clients will give a user's email address to anyone who requests it. Many spammers harvest these live email addresses from IRC, and send spam to those ids.

12. Social Engineering

Spammers sometimes use a hoax to lure people into giving them valid email addresses.

Richard's "Free CD's" chain letter will be a good example of this method. The letter promises a free CD for every person to whom the letter is forwarded to as long as it is sent to Richard too.

[Hi. My name is Richard. I am the president of the Cyber Promotions for Columbia House. We are in a fierce competition with companies such as Amazon.com and Music Blvd, among many others. Because of this, I have been authorized to offer 10+ free CD's of your choice to any person who participates in our promotion. All you have to do is send this message on to your friends! Yes, it is that simple. Now you are wondering how many CDs you get, and how to get them. It all depends on how many people you send this message to. You are required to send this email to the following address to receive your first 10 CDs : Cyberpromotions@n2music.com In addition, you get another CD for every person you forward this to. For example, if you send this to Cyber Promotions, along with 10 of your friends, you would receive a total of 20 CDs.]

All the author of the hoax wanted was to get people to mail valid email addresses to him so that he can build a list of addresses to spam or sell later.

13. UseNet

Spammers scan UseNet for email addresses using ready made software programs designed to do just that. Some programs designed to look at article headers which contain email addresses, while other programs check the articles' bodies. They take everything that contain the '@' character and attempt to decipher email addresses. People who gets spammed say that spam frequency to their mailbox dropped sharply when they do not post to UseNet.

14. Domain Contact Points

All domains have one to three contact points: administration, technical, and billing. The contact point includes the email address of the contact person. Since the contact points are freely available spammers harvest the email addresses from the contact points for lists of domains. This is a tempting method for spammers, as those email addresses are most usually valid and mail sent to it is read regularly.

15. White Pages And Yellow Pages

There are various sites that function as white pages, sometimes called people search sites. Yellow pages have an email directory on the web.Those white and yellow pages contain addresses from various sources. For example, HotMail will add email addresses to BigFoot by default, making new addresses available to the public.

16. Finger Daemons

Finger Deamon is a service that normally runs on port 79 and was originally intended as a digital businesscard for people.Some finger daemons are set to be very friendly. A finger query asking for joe@host will bring out a list info including login names for all people named Joe on that host. A query for @host will produce a list of all currently logged-on users. Spammers use this information to get extensive users list from hosts.

I am sure there will be many more ways by which spammers try to harvest your email addresses. If the readers could contribute to this list it will be very useful for all.

Now lets have a look at what we can possibly do prevent it or things we can do if spammed.

As invisible email addresses can't be harvested, it will be a good idea to have the email addresesses of recipients of forwarded emails on BCC:. If forwarded from somebody else, remove all the email addresses inserted by the previous sender from the email's body.

A forwarded but important mail...

Hi guys,
How many of us eat at Nadhini restaurants? Many? And how many of us
know it and trust it? Many of us, I think. So I think the email I got
from my friend Sandip is going to be something of a shocker.

"I found this in his home delivered chicken biriyani yesterday. I held
it in my hand, and almost put it in my mouth cos it was well cooked and
resembled a chicken piece :-) and then I just yelled my guts out !
Biriyani from Nandhini Palace / Nandhana Palace (domlur branch),
Bangalore. Sorry if you're grossed out, but had to let you know."

What is even more disgusting perhaps is that as an apology, the
Nandhini guys sent over a basket of fruit and a 2009 diary. My friend
wants to press charges and take this to the newspapers but the
restaurant guys are begging and pleading with him not to. What's more
there is the fear that these are powerful guys who can hurt him or
maybe even kill him if he tarnishes their reputation.

The Health Ministry will not act so as citizens, we must at least raise
awareness and not let this be hushed up. Please forward this email to
whomever you can to let them know. Please be careful when eating out
and if the picture isn't enough to dissuade you from eating at Nandhini,
I don't know what will.

Plot

Raaz - The Mystery Continues deals with issues of the “evil within” the human psyche and how it manifests itself. It is based on the myths and superstitions that are still widely existent in the contemporary Indian society. The film attempts to challenge one’s beliefs about paranormal phenomena. It is about anticipation of fear and the fright residing within ones’ self. Emraan Hashmi plays a painter, named Prithvi, who has an extraordinary gift. His paintings tell Kangana Ranaut's character's future.

Development

Screenwriter Shagufta Rafique in an interview said that the story is weaved around Sant Kabir's idiom, "Bura jo dekhan main chala, Bura na milya koi; Jo dil khoja apna, Ta mujh sa bura na koi". Which means that the evil is within oneself and that is the message of the film. The director was changed from Vikram Bhatt (who was the original Raaz director) to Mohit Suri. Mohit has reportedly, added a lot of dramatic space to the film and has played around with visuals and sounds which has led to an extraordinary pace. Mohit got inspired about the movie after reading a lot on Indian mythology, where good and evil are represented in stark contrast. Filming for the movie took place in Shimla unlike Ooty which was used in "Raaz". According to sources Raaz - The Mystery Continues is set to become the most expensive Bollywood horror movie. Kangana herself was paid INR 60 lakhs for her role in the film. Recent reports say that an assumed nude scene by Kangana has been asked by the Censor Board of India to be deleted from the movie. They also gave an A certificate for the film, leading to a war of words between Mukesh Bhatt and the Board. Mukesh however denied these saying that "Raaz - TMC" got a U/A certificate.

Casting

Originally it was thought that Bipasha Basu would be called for RTMC since she hasn't worked with the Bhatts post Jism. But later it was announced that she has been dropped and Kangana Ranaut took her place. Even Amrita Rao was considered but she passed the opportunity. Emraan Hashmi joined the cast taking over from Dino Morea. Dino expressed his disappointment with the decision by saying "I'm not disappointed but definitely baffled. How can they make a Raaz 2 without anyone from the original cast? How can it be a sequel, then?" But then it was announced that Raaz - The Mystery Continues is not a sequel to the original movie. Adhyayan Suman plays Yash, a documentary filmmaker who is perceived as an atheist and believes in scientific rationale behind everything. His beliefs are challenged in the film. He is reportedly calling this film his debut, although he debuted in Bollywood with the 2008 film Haal-e-dil. Actress Sonal Chauhan was set to play a part in the movie, but she is not featured in any of the promos or on the official website, hence it is accepted that she won't be a part of the final film. Incidentally, Kangana again plays a supermodel called Nandita in this film, right after Fashion. Since playing a supermodel, she had to reportedly undergo many types of looks and even changed her hair colour to red. Emraan Hashmi plays a dark character as the painter, Prithvi, who has no contact with the outside world. his character is the main link to the fate of Kangana's character. According to the actor, though comparisons are evident with the earlier "Raaz", this film has a different plot and will give a new definition to the horror genre.

User Development Fee @ Bangalore Airport

With effect from January 16, 2009, a “User Development Fee” of Rs. 260/- (including taxes) will be collected from all outbound domestic passengers using the Bengaluru International Airport. The UDF is levied for the provision of passenger amenities, services and facilities and will be used for the development, management, maintenance and operation of the airport. The UDF has been approved by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India.

Domestic passengers travelling out of Bengaluru International Airport from January 16, 2009 will have to make payment of the User Development Fee at the counters provided in the terminal building. Passengers should produce the receipt of payment of UDF at the time of entering the terminal gates. Payment can be made by cash, debit card or credit card (Visa & MasterCard only). If you are paying by cash, you are requested to provide exact change for quicker processing.

Please allow 10 minutes for the transaction during peak hours from 0600 hrs to 1000 hrs and 1730 hours to 2030 hrs and about 3 to 5 minutes at all other times.

Exemptions:
Infants under the age of two years and airline crew on duty are exempted from payment of the User Development Fee.

Billu Barber: Plot, Cast and the Origin

Plot

The story is set in today's day and age. Billu (Irrfan Khan) plays a village barber. His business is running low because he has not been able to upgrade himself according to the changing trends. One fine day, a film unit visits his village to shoot a movie. It stars a superstar, Sahir Khan (Shahrukh Khan), who Billu claims to have been friends with. All at once, Billu's status in the village changes, and he becomes highly respected. Everyone wants him to meet the superstar through Billu. But Billu is unsure, as he feels he cannot compare to the superstar's status. Besides, he fears that the star may not recognize him. He makes many attempts to meet the star but fails. After all these hardships, he gives up. The villages believe he lied about the relationship with the star and insult him. His family and children also get upset and badmouth him. In a twist towards the end, the true extent of the friendship Billu and the superstar is revealed.

Shooting for Dharma Productions' 'My Name Is Khan' starring SRK and Kajol in lead roles is currently underway in and around Los Angeles. The buzz is that SRK plays a person suffering from Asperser's Syndrome (an autism related disorder) who gets into trouble with cops abroad especially because of his surname 'Khan'. Kajol plays SRK's better-half in the film. Even though the film has a serious undertone, with best buddies SRK, KJo and Kajol coming together, the atmosphere on the sets is one of fun and frolic.
